This publication will explore how the design of contemporary cities can be described and informed by four key human actions: gardening, recycling, playing, walking. These are crucial actions determining the character of the contemporary urban environment. The book will investigate the relation of the city, not only with its own built environment, but also with a more complex range of social economic and environmental issues. Themes will include recent planning proposals connected with the production of food and the presence of urban agriculture; contemporary strategies for recycling garbage; the city with its urban fabric as a perfect new terrain of playground for skateboarding, biking and walking. Contributing authors: Ocean Howell, David Thomson, Tali Hatuka, Richard Reynolds, Vikram Bath, Hans Ibelings, Debra Solomon, Jochen Becker and others. This publication is in conjunction with an exhibition at the Centre Canadian dArchitecture in Montreal. Please note: This is the French edition of this publication.
