'Measure' is the key to the approach followed by the Paris studio ecdm architectes. Headed by Emmanuel Combarel and Dominique Marrec, the practice has developed its own wide-ranging vocabulary, in which nuances are achieved through respect of an architectural syntax that follows very precise rules. The results are project designs apparently very different in their appearance and choice of materials, but all predicated upon the same desire for rational solutions which do not bow to prevailing fashions. 25 designs and completed projects are being brought together for the first time, enabling us to perceive and identify new aspects of the environment around us. Embodying a perfectly 'measured' approach, they are an example of how can we act upon our world without imposing upon it.
