Bij de gratie van het conflict

Wonen, organiseren en besturen in het tijdperk van de stuifzandsamenleving

Ed Taverne

In the autumn of 2008 politician Adri Duivesteijn received the Rotterdam-Maaskant Prize for his tireless contribution to the development of the field of architecture. Ed Taverne writes about the way in which Duivesteijn manages to connect public administration and architecture.

Adri Duivesteijn has been a dedicated advocate of good architecture for many years, as a city councillor in The Hague, director of the Netherlands Architecture Institute, member of parliament and in his current capacity as city councillor in Almere. Taverne encapsulates this development in three themes that demonstrate the significance of Duivesteijn’s concepts and projects to society, culture and government, making this essay relevant to architects and urban planners and to politicians and public administrators at every level.

About the author: Ed Taverne, professor emeritus of architectural history, is involved in various prominent research and book projects. He has published on urban planning in the Netherlands, and on the architects J.J.P. Oud and Carel Weeber.
