De levende stad

Over de hedendaagse betekenis van Jane Jacobs

Simone Franke, Gert-Jan Hospers Ed(s)

Without The Death and Life of Great American Cities (1961) by Jane Jacobs, the 20th century would have been different, wrote the architecture critic Bernard Hulsman in 1998. In the collection of essays De levende stad, influential architects, urban designers, social scientists and economists scrutinize the views of Jacobs and ask themselves what their significance is for the Dutch city of the 21st century.

Contributors to this collection of essays: Arnold Reijndorp, Dany Jacobs, Talja Blokland, Lia Karsten, Jos Gadet, Arie Lengkeek, Ivan Nio, Mark van Twist, Kees Christiaanse, André Ouwehand, Gert Urhahn.

About the editors: Simon Franke is the mind behind Trancity, an organisation specialised in urban development. Gert-Jan Hospers is a university lecturer and researcher at the University of Twente who is specialised in regional economic development, innovation, creative cities and city branding.
