SHELL: innovative inner envelopes is a reflection on the role assumed in recent times by the inner shell – intended as a whole of vertical and horizontal partitions – focusing more on dry and movable systems such as floating floors, suspended ceilings and vertical elements, more and more frequently conformed like a real 'shell', freed from building carrying systems and calibrated according to the user requirements. This volume describes the role assumed by the inner shell within sustainable design for the definition of thermal, acoustic and lighting comfort, focusing on office architecture. The authors make the point and illustrate some possible future tendencies, introducing various, recently devised prototypes and concepts by several international designers.
