Hendrick de Keyser: Architectura Moderna

Moderne bouwkunst in Amsterdam 1600–1625

Koen Ottenheym, Paul Rosenberg, Niek Smit

Hendrick de Keyser was one of Europe’s most important 17th-century artists. This book places his work in an international context.

Architectura Moderna, a retrospective on sculptor and architect Hendrick de Keyser, was published in Amsterdam in 1631, ten years after his death. A series of 40 prints illustrate this master builder’s craftsmanship and inexhaustible creativity. This is the earliest known monograph of an artist in the Dutch language and a unique source of knowledge about the architecture of the period.

About the authors: Koen Ottenheym is a professor of the History of Architecture at Utrecht University; Paul Rosenberg and Niek Smit are architectural historians with the Vereniging Hendrick de Keyser (historic houses association of the Netherlands).

Please note: This publication is only available in Dutch.
