Krimp!

Gert-Jan Hospers

Series: SUN Statements

The population in large parts of the Netherlands is shrinking. That means that houses, shops and offices are becoming vacant and that schools, theatres and swimming baths are faced with closure. The spectre of bleak, empty property looms, but it is debatable whether that picture corresponds to reality. This book by Gert-Jan Hospers reveals the potential of shrinkage.

Krimp! (Shrinkage!) is the third book in the series SUN Statements, in which authors take up a clear stance on a social issue. John Thackara’s Plan B, on sustainable design, and Christian Welzbacher’s Euro Islam Architecture, on the traditional or non-traditional appearance of mosques in Europe, have already been published in the series.

About the author: Gert-Jan Hospers is a lecturer and researcher in Economic Geography at the University of Twente and holds a special chair in City and Regional Marketing at the Radboud University Nijmegen. He is chair of the Jane Foundation, which propagates the ideas of the US urban activist Jane Jacobs, and is a member of the scientific committee of Cittą Slow International.
