MUSEION, the name of the new museum building in Bolzano, opened in 2008, comes from the ancient Greek. It also represents a programme for the presentation and mediation of art in all its expressive forms. The resulting architecture is a convincing ensemble of museum, studio building and bridge as a public setting for art. This book describes how the initial idea developed into the realization of this architecturally and technically remarkable building with all its details, such as the media facade or the curving double bridge. Architecture as a balance of apparent opposites with no compromise: urban developmental context and architectonic memorability, closed and transparent facades, and interior flexibility coupled with an unmistakable appearance. Including many, often very personal, contributions, this book is addressed to all those with an interest in art and architecture.
