New European Architecture 09/10

Hans Ibelings, Kirsten Hannema Ed(s)

A10's third yearbook features a selection of twenty projects previously published in A10 new European architecture magazine, ranging from an open-air altar in Brezje to holiday houses in the Carpathians, from the new library of the Technical University in Prague and a mixed-use complex in Sofia to museums in Kalmar and Kotka.

This book opens with essays on the conversion of existing buildings, on architecture and conventions, and on the effects of the economic crisis. Moreover it contains two interviews: one with Europan's secretary-general Didier Rebois on twenty years of Europan, and the other with Marija Bevk on Slovenian architecture today, five years after the launch of a generation of young Slovenian architects under the banner of Sixpack.

The yearbook also includes a 'review of the reviews' of four much-publicized projects: The school of architecture in Nantes by Lacaton & Vassal, Santiago Calatrava's Ličge train station, the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, designed by Delugan & Meissl, and Igor Franic's Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb.

About the editor: Hans Ibelings, architectural historian, is editor-in-chief of A10 new European architecture, as well as the author of several books, including Landscapes of Transition.
