OverHolland 1

François Claessens, Henk Engel Ed(s)

Series: OverHolland

Within Europe, the Dutch city occupies a class of its own. Research into the development of Dutch cities can contribute valuable insights to our body of knowledge on the European city. The role of architectural projects in the transformation of Dutch cities is the primary focus of attention. Urban restructuring and renewal are the most important architectural challenges today and involve a huge number of projects in highly diverse situations in municipalities that have autonomous powers. As a result, the approach taken must be adaptable to local situations and possibilities. This first issue in the series explores the problem and reports on the conference 'Transformers of the European City', with contributions by architects Jo Coenen, Alberto Ferlenga, Hans Kollhoff and Bob van Reeth.

OverHolland examines typological and morphological urban research and publishes it as architectural interventions in the context of Dutch cities. OverHolland will be published twice a year.

OverHolland is a publication of the Architecture Department of the Faculty of Architecture at Delft University of Technology.
