Tom Leader Studio, a collaborative and experimental design office formed in 2001, is among the most exciting new voices in landscape architecture today. Wit, playfulness and experimentation play an important role in the studio’s work, which seeks a balance between speculative designs and built works, including the Pool Pavilion Forest in the Napa Valley, the Birmingham Railroad Reservation Park in Alabama (currently under construction), and Park Merced, a housing site in San Francisco. Formerly a partner in the firm of Peter Walker and Partners, Tom Leader is known for his fresh and imaginative landscape designs, which engage the root elements of landscape without reverting to sentimentalism.
